Kiriko Shimizu（清水桐子）

 

Born in 1973 in Kumamoto, Japan.

Active in the character design field since 1996.

Her studio is currently based in Tachikawa, Tokyo.

 

Shimizu is known for her warm color palette, textured surfaces, and for incorporating the traditional Kohiki technique in her work.

Concept

 

Kiriko Shimizu draws inspiration for her creations from everyday scenes in nature—such as music, flowers, trees, and birds.

She also finds inspiration in moving images and films. Influenced by the warm textures unique to handmade work, she creates characters that are full of expressive charm.
