A total of 20 contemporary Kutani ware artists have hand-painted original designs, which were then reproduced on small plates using advanced transfer technology.
Although transfers were used, numerous prototypes were created through repeated trial and error between each artist and the transfer specialists.
As a result, the finished plates successfully capture each artist’s unique qualities—the brushstrokes, the colors, and even the textures of the paint. The artists themselves are fully satisfied with the outcome.
By employing this transfer technique, we were able to offer these plates at an affordable price point—astonishingly reasonable compared to original artist pieces.
What’s more, creating a 20-piece collection that reproduces the hand-painted works of 20 different Kutani artists through transfer technology is the very first attempt in the Kutani ware industry.
The Kutani Art Small Plates were born from the desire to let more people casually enjoy the captivating and beautiful art designs of Kutani artists in everyday life.
