Description
Shigaraki Ware – Hechimon Collection
Shigaraki ware is one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions, produced in Shigaraki Town in Shiga Prefecture. With a history of more than 1,200 years, it is recognized as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan and was officially designated as a traditional craft by the Japanese government in 1976.
The Hechimon series represents the spirit of Shigaraki craftsmanship. The word “Hechimon” is a local Shigaraki expression meaning objects shaped by the wind and nature. Much like the natural variations found in the landscape, each vessel carries its own unique form and character.
Rather than the uniformity of industrial products, these pieces embrace natural irregularities, subtle textures, and expressive surfaces created by skilled craftsmen. Each piece reflects the philosophy that beauty lies in individuality and the quiet charm of handmade objects.
Today, the Hechimon collection continues to celebrate the warmth, playfulness, and sincerity of traditional Shigaraki pottery.
